Is it ok to use out of data postcrete or if kept outside?

Postcrete and other concrete come with their own shelf life usually around 6-12 months if stored in the right conditions. The bag should be prevented from moisture if kept outside as it can harden the postcrete and make it lumpy. This can lead to an uneven mixture that won’t set properly and the posts won’t fix well.

It should be soft and powdery for it to be used. For the postcrete to last long, it should be stored in dry conditions.

How many bags of postcrete needed per post?

In general, you need to use 1 to 2 bags of 20kg postcrete per fence post. It also depends on the size of the post and depth of the hole.

For a standard post, usually 1 bag is enough. For larger posts, usually 2 bags are needed. 

Do you put postcrete in first then water?

Yes, as the postmix sets quite fast, the dry mix should go in the hole first followed by water (usually 2-3 lt) on the top. The mix will then absorb the water and start setting in minutes. The post should be fixed only when this surface has hardened to support it.

Can you put soil on top of postcrete?

Yes, it’s ok to put soil on top of postcrete once it’s settled with the water. Soil is often used to grow grass, plants and turf on the surface to make the area around the post look more appealing. 

The postmix usually hardens within minutes and will be ready to put soil on top of it. 

Is postcrete cheaper than concrete?

A bagged postmix is usually more expensive than concrete which is often cheaper and for small installations like setting up fence posts. Postcretes are more expensive; they mix with water on their own within a few minutes and also use less water as compared to concrete.
