Is fence capping worth it?
Yes, it’s completely worth it to have a fence capping. Fence capping rail is used to create a barrier that protects it against water seeping in from fence top and rotting. It prevents a fence panel from rotting, warping or any gradual deterioration due to weather.
Other than protection, fence caps also give fences a clean and better structured look. This also makes your fences look more attractive. At City fencing, our experts can attach the fence railing caps during the installation process.Â
How to attach capping to a fence?
You can easily attach fence caps to your fences that can add to their durability and a better finished look.Â
- Before attaching the fence caps, make sure that the top of the fence is clean and has an even surface.
- Measure the length of your fence and cut the capping rails accordingly.Â
- Position the capping rail at the top and right in the middle of the fence to see if it fits the fence perfectly.Â
- Use nails or screws to attach the rail to the fence.
- Make sure that all the rails are in the same line across the fence to give it a finished look.
At City Fencing, we use pressure treated fixings to give extra strength to your fences. We also have different screws for different purposes – concrete screws and pozi wood screws.
Do capped fences last longer?
Yes, capped fences last longer than uncapped fences. Fence panel cappings are a protective layer added on top of fences to prevent them from any moisture damage. They shield the fences from top and help in reducing rot or warping.Â
Fence caps also give extra structural strength keeping them firmer and intact. Thus, these capping rails help in making fences more durable and saving cost of frequent maintenance.Â
Do you screw or glue post caps?
You can use either screw or adhesive to attach the post caps. To choose between the two, screws are a better option which can place the railing firmly on the fence. It provides better strength to withstand adverse weather conditions. However, a strong adhesive can also be used if you don’t prefer any screw nailing marks around your fence. They may not provide a strong resistance against wet conditions and might still need some screws to hold them.Â
The best way would be to use a combination of both adhesive and screws to give the best weather proof resistance. Â
How does a capping rail affect fence cost?
Adding fence caps does increase the overall costing for fence installation but they save the cost in the long run by needing less frequent maintenance or fence replacement. The capping rails protect the top of the fence panels from any water damage that could lead to warp or rot.Â
